We are committed to stewarding all donations in a manner that honours the Lord and the intentions of the giver. As such we take our Scriptural mandate from the following verse:
We want to avoid any criticism of the way we administer this liberal gift. For we are taking pains to do what is right, not only in the eyes of the Lord but also in the eyes of man. 2 Cor. 8:20-21
We seek to observe this in all our financial practices and processes. If we can be of any further assistance please contact our office between 9 am and 5 pm ET at 1-866-268-8778.
- Note: Your donations are tax-deductible, and you will be issued an official receipt for income tax purposes.
- Spending of funds is confined to board-approved programs and projects. Each restricted contribution designated towards a board-approved program or project will be used as designated, with the understanding that when the need for such a program or project has been met, or cannot be completed for any reason determined by the board, the remaining restricted contributions designated for such program or project will be used where needed most.
Does Pioneers assess an administration fee on donated funds?
Yes, Pioneers assesses a 10% fee on all donations with the exception of emergency relief donations which are charged a 3% fee. These fees help to cover services and administrative costs.
Can I send post-dated cheques?
Yes, Pioneers accepts post-dated cheques. The cheques are filed and held until the corresponding due date at which time they are banked with the next scheduled deposit.
As a Canadian can I support a Pioneers Missionary from a foreign base and receive a tax receipt?
Yes, Pioneers Canada receives donations made toward Pioneers missionaries that serve or are sent from foreign bases, and issues you a Canadian tax receipt. Pioneers then transfers your support to our foreign affiliate office on behalf of your missionary or project each month or quarterly.
How are missionaries paid?
As a faith-based mission the personnel, both foreign and home staff, of Pioneers depend on the Lord for their support. Personnel are required to raise their own prayer and financial support by teaming with churches and individual partners. As employees of Pioneers they receive a set salary each month that is determined by their individual ministry and personal needs for their family and the standards of living in their part of the world. Regardless of fluctuations in the amount of donations received, they receive the same salary, provided the funds are available. All the gifts that are given to support missionaries are held in our accounting system under their names, and the funds remain available for them, if they have special ministry needs above their salary.
How do I make changes to my automated giving?
Any changes in the amount or designation of your gift must be made in writing. You can do this via email by contacting email@example.com, or by faxing Pioneers Finance at 1-519-268-2787 or by mail at Pioneers Canada, Attn: Finance Dept., 51 Byron Ave. Dorchester, ON N0L 1G2.
Are my gifts tax-deductible?
All donations for missionary support, projects or strategic priorities are tax-deductible and are considered to be under the jurisdiction and control of Pioneers Canada according to Canada Revenue Agency. Personal gifts as in those for Christmas or birthdays of our workers are not eligible for a receipt but will be passed along to our workers in accordance with CRA guidelines (see personal gift FAQ)
How do I give a missionary a personal/non-tax deductible gift? (I.E Christmas or Birthday)
To give a personal gift to a missionary please make out a separate cheque payable to Pioneers and clearly indicate in your correspondence that it is a “personal gift”. Pioneers is able by CRA guidelines to pass along your gift up to $500/person/year directly to the missionary. Amounts above the $500 threshold will be sent as salary and are subject to payroll withholding taxes.
Are there fees for credit card transactions?
Yes, Pioneers Canada is charged a 2.5% processing fee based on our current merchant agreement with the bank. This fee is deducted from the donation before it is passed along to the missionary.
Is Pioneers Canada a member of the Canadian Council of Christian Charities
No, currently Pioneers Canada has only an affiliate membership with CCCC however we do make every effort to adhere to their qualification requirements and standards. At present we are looking into full membership status.
What are your accountability standards and measures?
Pioneers Canada has yearly independent audits performed on our ministry and financial statements by McClurkin Ahier & Company LLP. These are available on our 2014 financials or upon request by calling 519.268.8778. In addition, the Pioneers board provides regular oversight conducting semi-annual meetings with the Finance and Executive sub-committees convening twice per year in between the full board meetings.
Can I support Pioneers as an organization without giving to a missionary or project?
Yes, you can. Administration fees assessed to missionary and project accounts cover only a portion of our operating expenses and initiatives. To ensure maximum support of our field missionaries, Pioneers Canada office staff also raise support for their salaries. We rely on the Lord to cover the remaining shortfall from other sources. To make a contribution to Pioneers Canada and assist us in meeting our expenses and providing new initiatives please make out your cheque to Pioneers and designate your donation to “Strategic Priorities.”
