With deep sadness, we share the news of the unexpected passing of Pioneers Canada President, Donnie Scearce on June 4, 2023.

Donnie was the dear son of Ronnie and Sandra Scearce of Danville, Virginia and the beloved husband, soulmate and best friend of 40 years to Beth (née Owen) Scearce. He was the loving Dad to Josh (Leonard) of Toronto, Caleb (Kirsten) of Dorchester, and proud Papa to Ethan and Noah. Brother of Terry of St. Augustine, Florida and Chad (predeceased) of Danville.

Donnie and Beth Scearce joined Pioneers in 1989, with plans to go to Albania.  After doing survey work among Albanians in former Yugoslavia, Italy, and Albania, God led them to join the mobilization effort of Pioneers USA where Donnie served as Director of Mobilization.  Afterward, Donnie served as the Pioneers International Mobilization Coordinator in our first International Director’s office.

In 2002, Donnie became the Executive Director for Pioneers Canada where he served for eight years. He then served in local pastoral ministry for three years. In 2014, Donnie returned to Pioneers Canada to serve as Director of Personnel and then Executive Director.

Donnie was a beloved leader, mentor, and friend to so many of us within the Pioneers global family. Donnie had the heart of a Pioneer and the humble heart of Christ. We shall miss him dearly.
